Ice Cream Cupcakes

Want a really easy and fun activity to do with the little ones? Ice Cream Cupcakes.
For my birthday, I brought in "naked" cupcakes to work for my kids to decorate. We were going to use the usual icing, but at the last minute (perhaps a Freudian craving?!) I decided to use ice cream instead. This was a lot of fun for the children to participate in. Picking up the tiny sprinkles (one boy cleverly put every other one in his mouth!) was an excellent fine motor task they surely didn't get tired of. Spraying the whipped cream on top of the cupcake was a definite crowd pleaser and got a lot of smiles as it shot out! And of course, the best part was eating the cupcakes. For some, the sprinkles they painstakingly put on top proved to be a little of a sensory/tactile speed bump in enjoying their creation, but it was good lesson in texture and once they got past them, the ice cream and cake was fully enjoyed.
The teachers also got a nice little mid-morning treat as well :)

100th Day of School

Mj's Kindergarten class just recently celebrated their 100th day of school. I can't believe the year is more than 1/2 over and soon my 5 year old will be in 1st grade!
For his project, the task was to be creative :) and to make something out of 100 objects.
Well, while on one of my many excursions to the craft store, I came across these Magic Nuudles. They looked pretty cool (especially after reading "no-mess") and I knew they'd also be great to use in my classroom as well.
These little "nuudles" were fascinating and tons of fun for all of us! No glue needed. All that was needed was a damp sponge -- dab the "nuudles" onto the sponge and attach it to another "nuudle"...let your creativity do the rest. So easy. The cool part is that the "nuudles" also adhered to paper so Mj was able to make his robot stand up and be 3D.
